It’s been a long, long time, but it finally happened. Not only did Erik and I manage to get in the same room together for more than a couple hours, but we also managed to spend some studio time.
I have been on an ever-strengthening nostalgia rush, and this summer has been particularly strong. I remember when I was a kid, my parents used to pile me into the car and we’d drive to the beach, usually Grand Bend. I don’t remember a whole lot about the beach, weirdly. But I do remember the drives to and from the beach in my dad’s Dodge Dart Swinger, sticking to the vinyl seats in the extreme heat of the summer without an air conditioner in sight.
The car had only an AM radio in it, and so we were left with top 40 radio. I think so many of my memories formed while listening to the radio on those long trips. I have a list of many, many tracks that I’ve come to know as “beach tunes”.
Gordon Lightfoot is a favourite, and has a lot of tracks in that list. Erik and I decided this time to try to cover him, as we never have. So, here’s a little fun from the last couple days in the form of our cover of Carefree Highway. Feels like summer. 🙂
Oh, and as a bonus, here’s a few seconds of the shenanigans while we record, just ‘coz I’m a sucker for punishment.
